Ken is the Executive Chairman and Co-founder of Databank Financial Services Limited (Ghana), a full service investment banking firm established in 1990. Databank Brokerage, a subsidiary, is the leading stockbrokerage firm in Ghana. Databank also founded and manages EPACK, the most successful open-ended mutual fund focused on Pan Africa. Databank’s services also include Corporate Finance Advisory, Asset Management, and Equity Research. Databank’s affiliate companies since 1990 have acquired substantial interests in insurance, Savings and Loans institutions in Ghana, and commercial banks in The Gambia and Liberia. Ken is the Director of two publicly listed companies: Enterprise Insurance Company Limited, and Trust Bank of The Gambia (as Chairman). He is also Vice Chairman of Women’s World Banking Ghana.
Ken was the first African to testify before the U.S. Congress in support of the Africa Growth & Opportunities Act (AGOA). He is the first African Fellow at the Aspen Institute’s Henry Crown Leadership program and co-founding chairman African Leadership Iniatiative in West Africa, sponsored by the Aspen Institute, TechnoServe, and Databank Foundation. ALI Fellows consist of a new generation of African Leaders under the age of 50 who are active in business, politics and civil society, while being committed to values-based leadership and continued development on the African continent. He has been honoured as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum of Davos. He is a member of the President’s Ghana Investors’ Advisory Council, and a member of the Steering Committee of the US$1billion Pan African Infrastructure and Development Fund being sponsored by Nigeria and South Africa.
Ken also has a keen interest in Education. He is on the boards of New York University in Ghana, Central University College; College of Health Sciences (University of Ghana); Ashesi University; and on the International Advisory Council of Yale University.
Prior to founding Databank, Ken had worked at Morgan Stanley and Salomon Brothers in New York in their Corporate Finance and M&A Groups. Ken went to Achimota Secondary School in Ghana, has a BA in Economics from Columbia University (’84),, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management (’88).
He is married to Dr. Angela Lamensdorf Ofori-Atta; they have three children and live in Accra, Ghana.
